When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Acts 1:11Īnd said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” John 14:3Īnd if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. The Return of Jesus Christ Matthew 24:27įor as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Jesus will govern God’s kingdom with righteousness and justice. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain.” (Revelation 21:4). The book of Revelation says that when Christ returns he will conquer evil. The Bible encourages Christians to “keep watch” as the end approaches, and not fall back into a life of sensual pleasure. These verses about the end of time help us to see that God’s ultimate plan is for our redemption and happiness. Those who refuse to accept Jesus as their savior will suffer eternal punishment. The antichrist will arise to deceive people and lead them astray. Preceding Jesus’ return there will be wars and rumors of wars and great calamities such as famine, natural disasters, and plagues. He urges us to be watchful so we will be prepared. The Bible says that in the end times, Jesus will return in glory to judge the heavens and the earth. There will be a condition of apathy in the latter days that will tend to lull even the faithful to sleep if they don’t take heed to His words. In the same way that a thief comes when people are the least prepared, so our Lord will return in a time when people are not looking for Him. The Lord is pointing out the urgent need to be ready for His return. He is stressing that His coming will take the world by surprise. Jesus is emphasizing that the unbelievers will not recognize that He is coming until it is too late.

This corresponds exactly with Jesus’ prophecies about His coming being like the appearance of a thief in the night. People will not discern the signs of His coming just as the people during Noah’s day didn’t realize their impending judgment.

Just as Jesus had warned His disciples not to be deceived by false Christs because His second coming would be visible to everyone, He also explains that until the very day of His coming, the world will continue on its present course. These verses completely destroy the claims of the Bahai religion and others who claim that Jesus has secretly come back the second time. That’s the reason we don’t have to be fearful about missing His second coming and anxiously follow every report that Christ has come. Just as lightning is visible to everyone, so the second return of Jesus will be witnessed by the whole world. In Matthew’s account, it is especially clear that this statement about the lightning was made so that we wouldn’t be deceived by false Christs. This scripture and the parallel scripture in Matthew 24:27 make it very clear that the second return of Jesus will be no secret to anyone. Luke 17:24 ‘For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven so shall also the Son of man be in his day.’
